Story 1: The pedestrian
An elderly gentleman was trying to cross the road when a car stopped to let him through. The driver was with his five-year-old daughter.
The old man didn’t move. He was surprised by this kind gesture. He wasn’t used to it in this city he’d lived in for so long.
The man driving the car sensed the old man’s hesitation and courteously signalled for him to cross the road. The old man couldn’t believe his eyes and let out a wide smile. As he crossed the road, he waved to the five-year-old child and extended a heartfelt gesture of gratitude to the driver of the car.
The dad gave his five-year-old daughter a little lesson. He said, “Hey, sweetheart, remember to be a kind and considerate person and allow pedestrians to pass. Kindness is contagious, and it will always return to you in abundance.”
The daughter nodded eagerly, “Yes, Daddy! I can see the old man is so happy. This is such a wonderful act of kindness. I promise to always be a kind person.”
Both of them waited patiently as the old man slowly crossed the road.
Halfway through, a bus came barreling down and hit him, killing him instantly.
Story 2: The dog-walker
A dog-walker enters an apartment elevator at the basement level with a dog. The elevator stops at the ground floor. A 60-year-old woman residing in a 7-crore apartment, shouts at him and demands that he get out of the elevator so that she can enter.
She hates dogs and she hates poor people.
The dog walker refuses, citing adherence to apartment rules.
2 days later, this woman, accompanied by her husband, confronts the dog walker in the apartment lobby. She beats him with slippers while hurling abuses at him.
The dog-walker knew he was right but he was also poor, so he just folded his hands and touched their feet, offering an apology while they continued to hit him.
What should we be more upset about? A fictional story of a five-year-old innocent girl or a real-life story of a sixty-year-old entitled woman?
What happened to the 5-year-old? Did she grow up to be a kind person? She did give way to pedestrians? Or did she earn to live in a bubble? Ignore it and it will not hurt.
What happened to the dog-walker after that beating? Was he consumed by bitterness towards people in high society, or maybe his fate? Ignore it and he will be able to maintain his livelihood.
The lessons we try to teach our children are so different from real life in our country. Who bridges this gap?
Love n hugs

PS: We filed a police complaint against the 60-year-old woman and her husband. They refused to apologise to the dog-walker.
