Less than 24 hours to go for the opening night of my new standup comedy special - Spoiler Alert. And finally I can see the show!
It has finally come together in the way I envisioned it when I first wrote the words ‘Spoiler Alert’ on the first page of a new notebook.
Amidst the usual excitement, fear, hope, and the usual overwhelming sense of doubt that precedes a tour, there is immense relief. And dare I say pride in what I have created.
Creating this show has been a journey, and it’s been the longest I’ve ever taken to write one. I used to come out with a new show every year, but then 2023 hit, and boy did it hit! Everything changed. Both externally and internally.
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to say on stage anymore. Every initial angle/premise was dark and depressing. I wrote forever and just didnt find the jokes. But as they - stay with a problem long enough and you will find the solution. And slowly but surely, this show found its lines.
I recall one of the initial ‘note to self’ I penned for this show was - ‘Write from a place of love and amusement, rather than anger.’ Everytime I would get lost, I would return to this note.
When you create something from a good place, it is incredibly cathartic.
This is the most vulnerable I would ever be on stage.
This is the most truthful I have ever been in my writing.
Can’t wait to see how you all receive it, so please do catch it when it comes to your city.
As my AirPods blast “Back On the Road Again” by The Mob, I hold these pages in my hands…. Jokes…lots of them!
Where did they all come from? I have no idea!
How did all these pieces fall into place? God only knows.
But one thing I do know is that this show will make you feel better about life and yourself. It did for me :)
An effort of 2 years and now just 22 hours to go!
Yay!
Love & hugs
