I often get easily irritated by small things when I am in the writing phase. Then I blame those small things for screwing up my mood and I give up on writing for that day. And then I feel very artistic because ‘hey I have writer’s block’.
Writer’s block is to artists what anxiety is to young people these days. You are not cool if you don’t have it!
A stress-free life is a myth (So is the idea of Acche Din but I don’t want to get political).
What matters is what ‘value’ you put on that stress
Delayed flights, noisy coffee shop, Uber cancelled, blockage in heart - f*ck that shit!
In your pursuit of big dreams, let small things happen. Ignore them. Develop the ability to deal with petty annoyances. If you don’t, you will subconsciously use these annoyances as excuses for not doing what is important.
There's a scene in the movie Lawrence of Arabia in which Lawrence puts out a match with his fingers and doesn't flinch.
Another man watching tries to do the same and yells in pain.
"It hurts! What's the trick, then?" he asks.
"The trick is not minding that it hurts," Lawrence says.
Not minding that it hurts. The secret sauce.
You do not need the perfect environment to start working
You need to start working and everything else will fall in place.
There have been times when I have sat in fancy coffee shops, with my MacBook, my fav Muji pen and a fancy notebook and I have written nothing! And there have been times when I have written jokes on a paper napkin with a pen borrowed from the server.
Perfect environments don’t deliver great outcomes
Would Dhoni be Dhoni if he was born as an Ambani?
Did you watch the movie ‘12th Fail’? Would he have that ‘junoon’ if he didn’t come from that poor environment? The fire to succeed that people from smaller towns and villages have is unmatched.
I told my son when we watched 12th Fail:
“Watch it and be scared. These are the people you would compete with in your life”
Ignore the bullshit
Whatever you achieve in life is directly proportional to the work that you put in. You need to put in the hours. There is no exception to this rule. You need to ignore the bullshit around and focus on what is important.
To succeed as a comedian, one must write exceptional jokes. No comedian ever got famous by writing motivational blogs on Substack. It is…..
Hahaha...but your blog left me with a laugh...so well done stand up comedian: 😊👍💕✨
